Film Study #3 | The American

I saw this movie a while back and remember walking away from it having been greatly impacted not only by it’s story, but the impeccable use of color and composition throughout the film. Anton Corbijn and Martin Ruhe did a fantastic job with the film and have quickly become common names in my continual study of film and cinematography.

Design Something New Every Day Challenge

So I guess you could say I have begun my new years resolution early. Although, I haven’t actually made this my resolution. Consider it more of a challenge. I have decided to challenge myself in designing something new every day. So far so good. Below are the designs from the first few days. I love doing this because it allows me opportunity to try new things. I limit myself to 20 minutes only. Hopefully I can keep this up (although with the holidays fast approaching it may be a bit tough). Needless to say it’s been fun so far.

Film Study #2 | Underøath // Paper Lung

I know, I know. It’s a music video, not a film. Still, it tells a story. All in all, it’s a visual narrative. A gorgeous visual narrative. Underoath’s Paper Lung music video is a beautiful blend of gorgeous cinematography and graphic visuals. Not to mention the song is top notch as well. Underoath is easily one of my favorite bands and has been for a while and this video does not dissapoint. Enjoy the stills and check out the video here.

Film Study #1 | 2 or 3 Things I know About Her (1967)

I’ve started studying films that inspire me and selecting frames from those films that I find to be inspirational. Jean-Luc Godard’s 2 or 3 Things I Know About Her is definitely one of those films. I have never watched it until recently and was pleasantly surprised by the vibrant color, unique storytelling and beautiful cinematography that is consistent throughout the film. The main thing that caught my attention is how masterfully all of his shots are crafted as well as the way he narrates the story through whispering, which keeps the viewer engaged. It was hard to only select a few, but I’ve narrowed it down as much as I could.

Canvas For A Cause

These are paintings I did for a fundraiser benefiting Children’s Medical Center Dallas. I also made a video documenting a group of artists painting who contributed to the cause as well. Enjoy!

Take Your Medicine Goes Platinum

The “Take Your Medicine” music video (directed by Nader Husseini) I worked on by the band Transfer has been making it’s rounds in the film festival circuits the past few months with quite success. The latest one being at Houston’s WorldFest earning the Platium Remi (aka 1st place) for best rock music video. Once it’s cleared I will post a link to the final video for your viewing pleasure.

Tight Bike Tee's at Transit Bicycle Co.

I have sold out of the Tight Bike Tee’s but despair not, Transit Bicycle Co. is now selling them in store! If you didn’t get a chance to order one you can pick them up there.

That being said, the guys there know their stuff. If you’re looking for parts for your fixie or just have questions in general, stop by Transit Bicycle Co. off of McKinney Ave in Uptown and they will be able to get you what you need.

Zambia Book Drive Tees

A friend of mine asked me to design a shirt for an initiative that her and her students have decided to help with. It’s quite simple: send donated books to the Mumana Basics School in Zambia. Easy right? The only problem is that it costs a lot of money to ship anything to Africa, much less a box full of heavy books (about $90). This is where the shirts come in. The proceeds from the shirts go toward helping pay for the shipping costs and any other odd end taxes, etc. So when she told me about the shirts, even though I had a lot on my plate, I was happy to be of help.

For information in purchasing one of these shirts, please contact me at info@hellobyron.com.
